Healthy Start is a Home Visitor service offered through the Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE) Maternal and Child Health Program. This program serves ALL families in Kansas regardless of race, ethnicity, financial status or legal residency. These services are available to ANY pregnant woman and families with a baby, birth to one year old.
The Healthy Start Home Visitor can visit pregnant women to help you have a healthy pregnancy. Whether you need assistance in finding a doctor, financial assistance or assistance in filing out insurance forms, discuss good nutrition, breastfeeding options, education on infant car safety seats and how to use them, planning for child care if needed and guidance on how to stop behaviors that can hurt your growing baby such as smoking, drinking alcohol, or using other drugs.
After your infant is born the visitor can come to your home and help you with questions you might have about recovery after having a baby, infant care, breastfeeding, nutrition for you and your baby, regular health checks for your baby, family planning, immunization schedules, infant development, understanding baby behavior including the period of purple crying, change in the family dynamics, home safety and locating agencies or programs that can assist you and your family.
The MG County Home Visitor is a Certified Breastfeeding Educator and Passenger Car Seat Technician. The visitor has multiple resources available to help her families. Links to some of these programs are listed below. Agencies in the community and State want your experience as a parent and family to be healthy, safe, and fulfilling.
