Healthy Start

Montgomery County Health Department participates in the Maternal Child Health Program offered through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Maternal and Child Health Program.

Healthy Start is a home visitor service. This program serves ALL families in Kansas regardless of race, ethnicity, financial status or legal residency.  These services are available to ANY pregnant woman and families with a baby, birth to one year old.

The Healthy Start Home Visitor schedules visits with the pregnant mother, within the comforts of her own home to assist a healthy pregnancy.  The home visitor can provide education, links to community services to promote a health pregnancy, provider referrals, education on nutrition during pregnancy, breastfeeding education, infant car seat safety, education on smoking cessation during pregnancy, and education of cessation of alcohol and illicit drug use during pregnancy.

After your baby is born, the Healthy Start Home Visitor can come to your home and assist with questions you might have about recovery, infant care, breastfeeding, nutrition for you and your baby, health and wellness exams, family planning, immunization schedules, infant development, change in family dynamics, home safety, and links to community services to assist you and your family.
