Household Hazardous Waste

If you are a resident of Montgomery County, Kansas and need to dispose of household hazardous waste items, we have great news for you! Our designated facility, located at 112 N. Wald in Independence, Kansas, is now accepting drop-offs of these hazardous items. It is important to note that household hazardous waste, or HHW, is waste generated in the home that has the potential to cause serious health risks. Examples of HHW items include those that are flammable, toxic, reactive, or corrosive.

However, if you are unsure if a specific item will be accepted for disposal, please do not hesitate to contact us at 620-331-4139 between 2:30 pm and 4:00 pm for more information. Collection days are scheduled on the third Wednesday of the month from March through November, so mark your calendars and be sure to drop off your HHW items on those days. Packaging/Transporting Information

Check containers – make sure lids are tight.
Pack waste in sturdy containers for transportation, such as tub or box.
Wrap leaking or dirty containers in a clean plastic bag and use an absorbent (kitty litter).
Transport the materials in your trunk, or truck bed of your vehicle.
Include as much information as possible for the waste you are dropping off.
